Skitouring at Lofoten - Where the Sea and the Mountains meet

Lofoten is definitely a place where the sea meets the mountains. The scenic arctic coast offers such a strong sensation of sea and the mountains are just there and they are ski-able. In March the snow reaches the sea line and it is possible to ski down to cost enjoy not only beautiful scenery but also the good quality snow while touring.

This Tour is based in Sortland a little town on rather unknown side of the Lofoten Islands. From there we can ski not only main Islands of Lofoten but we can also explore the Skitouring coast of nearby Vesteralen area which offers an tremendous selection of beautiful Skitours, directly at the ocean side as well as at the coast of the fjords.

Day 1 - Arrival

We meet in Sortland and and drive to our accomodation. We will stay in cosy seeside houses just outside the town. Sortland is easy to reach from the Evenes Airport by bus (After every arriving Aircraft there is a direct bus to Sortland town, 1h30min appox..)

Days 2-7 Touring days

We do skitouring day trips from our lodge in the Lofoten range and in the Vesteralen range.
The peaks that we a skiing just about 600-800m but the quality of touring is excellent due to the fact that you ski really down to the sea level and you have endless possibilities to combine various slopes for one day. We will have in total about 1000-1200 (1500 maximum) vertical meters touring per day. This means up to 5 hours climbing time and 8 hours total touring time a day.

Day 8 Return

Well bring you to Airport bus to Sortland and it is time to fly back home.

The tour is designed for skiers who already have some experience in ski touring. How ever one does not need to be very experienced either. It is sufficient if one is technically in a position to ski slopes with 35 degrees of inclination. Physically the participants must be able to manage upto five-hour climbs and about eight hours total touring time per day in a moderate pace.

Freeride Skiing is an high alpine activity in a terrain, risk of avalanches and stone and ice fall is present. The daily goals can be more dificult or even impossible to reach upon unfavorable conditions (weather, snow, ice, fog, rain, storms, avalanches, lightning storms) Unfortunately also short-term occurrence of such conditions can happen in the high mountains in any season.

The tour takes place in Norway. Make sure that you have sufficent insurances for that area.
