Day 1 and 2: Avalanche theory, practical exercises and training tour in Kleinwalsertal with overnight included in a pension. Meeting point in Baad in Kleinwalsertal at 9:00 am. The event ends around 5pm (Baad).
Contents of the course days are:
- Theory of avalanches (study of snow, evaluation of avalanche danger, decision strategies)
- Theory and practical exercises of the companion rescue of avalanche victims
- Planning backcountry tours in the mountains
Lodging in Kleinwalsertal.
On the second day we make a practice tour in the mountains of the Kleinwalsertal valley, and apply the knowledge of the previous day to evaluate the avalanche situation during the activity. We will be about 6 hours on tour and 3 hour ascnding with moderate pace.

Vorkenntnisse zum Thema Lawinenkunde sind nicht erforderlich. Technisch reicht etwas Erfahrung von Skifahren abseits der Piste. Die Teilnehmer müssen konditionell in der Lage sein, bis zu dreistündige Aufstiege und etwa 5 Stunden Gesamtgehzeit am Tag zu bewältigen.
Previous knowledge about avalanches is not required. If you are with skis some experience of skiing off piste will do fine. Participants must be able to manage three-hour ascent and about 5 hours total walking time per day.

This tour is an high alpine activity in a terrain, risk of avalanches and stone fall is present. The daily goals can be more dificult or even impossible to reach upon unfavorable conditions (weather, snow, ice, fog, rain, storms, avalanches, lightning storms) Unfortunately also short-term occurrence of such conditions can happen in the high mountains in any season.
The tour will take place in Austria. Please ensure that you have adequate insurance protection! (Health insurance and an insurance policy that covers any possible rescue and recovery costs).
